I've used web applications like FlightRdar24, FlightAware and I love them. I thought it would be interesting to build my own, but to actually look like an old fashion radar, with glowing green sweeps and blips.
This is the result, and its quite good fun.
All of the data is gathered from open-source platforms, including:
LIVE AIRCRAFT
- adsb.lol - Community ADS-B network. The status bar shows which network supplied the current data.
LIVE AIRCRAFT (BACKUP)
- adsb.fi Used when adsb.lol is busy. Open data for personal, non-commercial use.
MAP

TODAY'S FLIGHTS
- AeroDataBox (via RapidAPI) Status, times and actual route of the selected flight, where available.
TYPICAL ROUTES
- adsbdb.com Usual route for a callsign, when today’s flight isn’t available.

- Mictronics aircraft database, via tar1090-db
AIRLINES
- Virtual Radar Server standing data Flight numbers and carriers on the scope, worked out from each callsign. Public domain (CC0).
AIRCRAFT PHOTOS
- Planespotters.net Each photo is credited to its photographer beneath it.
AIRPORTS
- OurAirports Public domain.
